CONFLICT DATES

DESCRIPTION:

There are some incredibly busy days for high school basketball in the greater EastBay.  “Doubling up” where officials are asked to work games at different sites on those days, it’s unfair to our officials and to the schools we serve.  We need to avoid it.  We can’t change the dates of the ball games, but we can identify those conflict dates well in advance, guarantee assignments on those dates to our officials, and expect them to work high school basketball only for us.  We have done so.

PUT THESE DATES ON YOUR CALENDAR NOW

We understand that there are some excellent reasons why you may not be able to officiate on those dates.  You have no control over situation at work or at home.  In addition, some East Bay Officials work college ball games, Division I/ II, and you don’t not want to turn down those assignments.  What you do have control over, however, is membership in other high school associations.  This region has several quality officiating groups but we expect that you will work for us on all our conflict dates, not for any other high school association.

Therefore, the East Bay Board of Directors has adopted the following policy: Members who reserve the dates above for EBBOA high school basketball games will be guaranteed games on those dates (or we’ll pay you for not working) and guaranteed a full schedule if you are a EBBOA member, subject to your availability and status in our Association.  If members haven’t received their assignment by 6:00pm of the day before the guaranteed assignment, will be required to call Marcella A. Dobbs to get that assignment.

Those officials who are unable to save those high school dates for us won’t be guaranteed a full schedule; they will be working only on our other busy days if they are free.  It is unacceptable to take any ball game from any other high school group on those busy days and expect a full schedule from us.
